Steve
Jansen - Drummer/Percussionist with Japan, David
Sylvian, Rain Tree Crow, Jansen/Barbieri/Karn, London, UK (pictured
on the right): “When
I came across the POPercussion cajon I knew that I could stretch
some boundaries with this box. It evokes a different type of performance
as it's unlike any other hand percussion instrument. Apart from
effectively interpreting the sonic dynamics of a drum kit by coupling
a punchy bass tone along with a wood snare effect, one can equally
create more ethnic sounds in a variety of ways. And with microphone
positioning, the use of soft beaters, wire brushes or other 'implements'
the dynamic will shift. In the studio, I like to experiment with
sound design and the cajon lends itself greatly to this, ranging
from pure, intimate human touch to lo-fi weirdness. And if you ever
need something 'hands on' to pan out new ideas in the control room,
nothing's better than having the cajon to hand.”
